Colonel Bruce Hampton

I first met Colonel Bruce some years ago. He comes into the restaurant sometimes, and orders a chopped pork sandwich. He didn’t guess my birthday, so now every day is my birthday, and his. He claims I know where all the bodies are buried, and he may be right.
I’d never actually seen Bruce play, until last Friday night. It’s tough slaving over ribs all night and then driving 65 miles to home, but I had to go, right? Northside Tavern is the only place close enough I can get off work and catch the last set, so I went, chopped pork sammich in tow. Had to.
Let me tell you… I’ve never seen musicians have such a great time on stage. Never. Some come close, very close, but this was an experience that tickles that thing in you and makes you feel like you’ve been touched by something great, something bigger. These things are the things that spawn religion. Maybe it’s part of the legend, it’s real hard to say. You just know the musicians around him feel they’re part of that legend too. It shows in their playing, and on their faces. The Colonel just has a way of sharing himself, his heart, with everyone, and a way of commanding from the stage, something tangible enough to eat. One set, and I was full.

Comin’ Around Again…
OK, here goes – deeeeeeeeeeep breath…
These are songs from some of my demos. Some are better than others, as far as quality goes – jeeze! I miss Dee Dee Vogt! The ones that are compressed to hell and back, and riddled with oopsies like, lead guitar somewhere other than the planet it was supposed to be on and effects that were never needed, are NOT hers! She’s the man! so to speak.
I’m putting a band together. I’ve got gigs lined up. All this is heavy on my mind right now. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Facebook | Hope For Haiti Now Georgia- BENEFIT for HAITI.
The low down:
Don’t miss this once in a lifetime event as Dirty South TV partners with some of Georgia’s finest musicians, Little Five Point’s very own Five Spot and Freestyle Missions to bring to you Hope for Haiti Now – Georgia. For those of you fortunate enough to be able to attend in person, a $10 cash donation (minimum) at the door will be your ticket in. For everyone else, you can view the live simulcast and make your donation online at the Dirty South TV website.
Join us as Scott Free (Freestyle Missions) and members of the Haitian community share their personal stories of the tragedies impacting their family members in Haiti, as well as their struggles in the rebuilding efforts. The main attraction for this event will be Gurufish, with special appearances by Barry Richman, Kate Kwik, Oliver Nichols and Sasha Swetlowski of Soul Hound, Joey Stuckey, Ricky Fargo, Donyale Renee, Charlie Wooten, Liz Lee, Grace Buford, Diane Durrett, John Marsh and Kate Moore of Deep Blue Sun, The Lives of the Monster Dogs and the Ben Diegman Band, plus many more.
We’ll also have a silent auction highlighting photographs and artwork from Haiti with all proceeds benefiting the Heart for Haiti Project by Freestyle Missions. Scott Free and his organization, Freestyle Missions, are not new on the scene because of the tragic earthquakes, but have a long standing ministry and partnership with over 300 Haitian pastors, of which 60 are currently located at ground zero in Petition-Ville, to serve the people. Your donations will help to provide tents, clean drinking water, medical supplies, food, clothing and tools such as picks, shovels, sledge hammers and wheel barrows to use in the efforts to rebuild a church and medical center. 100% of the donations to the ‘Hope for Haiti Now – Georgia’ Benefit in partnership with the Heart for Haiti Project by Freestyle Missions will arrive in Haiti by March 31, 2010 in the form of the items listed above. Please visit the website below for more details on how you can help.
We can’t think of a better way to show your love to Haiti than to join us in person or online, and donate to this worthy cause.
